Bizrate users gave Discount Contact Lenses an outstanding score.  Over 10,000 users have rated the service sine 2003.  Overall they gave the store a positive score in all 4 categories (”Would shop here again”, “On time delivery”, “Customer support”, and “Product met expectations”).  The vast majority of reviewers said things like “Very satisfied with Discount Lens and their payment plans. ” (85%)
2. 3DayMom notes that they offer a larger selection of contacts than her own eye doctor.  She also mentions that shipping over $89 is free. (60%)

Internet security suite and virus protection.

ESET provides internet security applications and virus protection.  It’s two most popular products - NOD32 virus protection and the Smart Security suite - are well known competitors in the industry.  Since they are such well known products, there are a large number of user reviews on the web.

Reviews:

1. PC World Gave NOD32 a score of 84.  They start by saying that NOD32 has the best virus protection, but 2nd-tier malware protection, and an interface that could be confusing to non-technical users.  They also noted that it ties into some popular PC programs like Outlook, though not with any IM programs.  Pricing - $39  for a single license and $27 per year renewals - is about average for its application class. (84%)
2. PCMag - “ESET Smart Security 3.0 is definitely a highly integrated security suite with a solid AV component. If you don’t need parental control and want a small-footprint solution, it may do the job. If ESET wants to climb to the top of the security suite heap, however, I’d like to see significantly better accuracy in detecting non-virus malware and in successfully handling the threats it does detect.” (65%)
3. CNET said that the main good points were the technical support, increased scanning speed, and nice interface.  It does not include firewall protection, however.  The also noted that it received high performance grades in independent tests. (86%)

Every review we found on ESET products was overwhelmingly positive.  Most of the sources though that ESET virus protection was the best or one of the best.  However, it was generally agreed upon that the malware protection was only average.  Despite a few minor downsides, ESET’s NOD32 and Smart Security suite are two of the most well known internet protection products.  We recommend them.

The TireRack website is easy to navigate and use.  Since it is such a well known site for car tires and auto parts, we found some good reviews:

1. ResellerRatings gave the site an average rating of 8.58 out of 10.  Users said they had an “excellent experience” with TireRack, and that “The shipping was fast”.  One user said he had problems when the tires he received that caused his car to vibrate when traveling at high speeds.  Besides a few other complaints, most users said things like “everything went smoothly”. (85%)
2. Yelp users all gave TireRack.com a perfect score of 5 out of 5. Some of the main points users made were that “Tirerack is the perfect example of an offline/online offering done right” and “I clearly fell in love with the site”. (99%)
3. Epinions users reviewed them at 4 out of 5.  Like the other sources, the vast majority of users said they had a good experience buying tires from TireRack.  About 8% of users pointed out some problem, while the other 92% were happy. (92%)

Things to help you get organized.

The Get Organized store is an online retailer that sells products specifically designed to help you get organized.  Many of the products they offer are “As seen on TV”.  From their site, you can buy things like the Shark steam mop, twin draft guard, nonstick oven liner, Green Bags, and the Ionic Whisper.  All of these are supposed to help you get your life together, and most very low-priced.

Reviews:

1. DrFaulken has a review of the Get Organized 3-tier can rack shelf.  In a nutshell, he notes that the rack can only hold smaller can sizes, like Campbell’s soup or tomato paste.  He said that since he uses mostly larger cans, the rack did not save him much space. (68%)
2. ViewPoints has a review on the Roll About Stool available at the Get Organized shop.  The stool is designed to let you half sit, half stand - giving you support and manueverability.  It is a nice concept, and the reviewer refers to it as a “Godsend”.  She goes on to recommend it to anyone who gets weak legs in the kitchen, workroom, or craftroom. Bistro MD is a specialty food diet program.  They promise to help you lose weight without starving yourself of the foods you like.  What sets BistroMD apart is that it is designed by doctors, but prepared by gourmet chefs.  This means that the food you are eating is healthy and tastes good.

1. EzineArticles recommends the diet, saying that it is for anybody who likes restaurant quality food and wants to lose weight. (79%)

Bodylastics is an complete body exercise tool.

Resistance bands replace heavy metal weights.

Bodylastics is a body exercise training tool that uses elastics bands instead of weights to provide workout resistance.  Instead of curling a dumbbell, you stand on the band and pull it upwards with your hand.  The stretching and contracting of the band provides the resistance.  

Bodylastics is endorsed by Terrell Owens of the Dallas Cowboys.  They also claim to have over 140 top gym exercises for every muscle group.  On their website, they advertise a complete home system for $45.95.  

Reviews:

Amazon users gave it a 5 out of 5.  They noted that the maximum resistance set can provide up to 70lbs - which is enough for most people - and can scale down in weight (tension) for people in bad shape.  They also noted that the tension bands are small and light enough to fit in a carry-on bag, so they are great for travelers.  Since most people have not worked out using this type of system, it could take a while to get used to.  Still, if you stick to a routine, you can build strength and tone your flab with these. (95%)

EzineArticles notes that Bodylastics can have a few advantages over other gyms.  With the Bodylastics Fitness tubes you can workout from home and save time.  The tubes also cost much less than a gym membership, and are much more portable. (82%)

BodylasticsReviews lists a few interesting facts, mentioning that the company was founded in 1998 by Blake Kassell.  They also noted that it is used by SWAT team members, firemen, police officers, and other proffessionals. (72%)

Clarins is an manufacturer of beauty supplies with an online store.  They sell makeup as well as lotions, sunscreen, and other items. We found some good reviews of Clarin’s products.

Reviews:

1. RateItAll users gave Clarins a 3 out of 5.  Most users said things like “I absolutely love Clarins”, while some mentioned they can be a little expensive. (60%)
2. BeautifulWithBrains gave Clarins Gloss Appeal a 3/5. (60%)
3. Cosmetic Candy has an overview of the Clarins Spring Collection, noting they have some nice lipstick and eye pencil colors. (62%)
4. About recommended their Younger Longer Balm, noting that it “felt fabulous” on the skin.  The author also mentioned that the convenience of only needing to apply it 3 times a week, but said that the $98 price tag may be a bit lofty for some. (68%)

CoffeeForLess is a discount online coffee supplier.  From their site, you can order many discount coffee supplies, including ground coffee, coffee beans, tea, coffee pods, and Keurig K-cups.  They also sell coffee accessories, like creamers, coffee flavor syrups, mugs, paper cups, coffee machines, and espresso machines.

We looked at their site, and liked it.  On their homepage, they advertise Dunkin’ Donuts and Folger’s coffee for sale.

Epinions users left a review that reported some delivery problems.  The author said they liked the low prices, but after ordering their coffee, had problems with customer support.  Another user ordered a few boxes of Keurig K-Cups, and was disappointed that they went on sale after he ordered them.  We don’t think this should affect their score. >>>

Oak and Smoke has a short article about his love for coffee.  While he does not mention his experience with the site, he does mention that he orders different flavors and varieties from them.  >>>

Bottom Line: 5 out of 10.  While we could not find any definitive reviews on CoffeeForLess, we also did not find anything that really hurt their score.  Overall, we lean more positive then negative, but we are going to keep looking for good reviews.  In the meantime, we suggest you try them if you want a variety of coffee flavors for cheap online.  Let us know how it goes!

Chegg lets students rent college textbooks and save money.

Chegg is an online college textbook rental service.  Instead of buying cheap textbooks, Chegg lets you rent them for a 60% or greater discount.  Chegg has any subject you might need, including history, science, and math textbooks.  If you decide you want to keep your books at the end of the semester, you can easily buy them.  You can also sell you textbooks to Chegg online.

YouTube has a good video review by 9malls. The speaker goes over some of the basic services Chegg offers.  He notes that Chegg allows moderate highlighting in rentals, and goes on to recommend the service.  >>>

The reviewer also notes that you can generally save about 60% by renting your textbooks online instead of buying them.  Finally the reviewer noted that books are promptly delivered within 4-7 days.  >>>

FUCC wrote a short, positive introduction to the service, noting that student can register for free with a university email address. Some users left comments, however, reporting customer service problems. >>>

CNET has a an article by Rick Broida.  He noted that he was able to save about $45 on just one used textbook through Chegg.  He went on to recommend the service to anyone talking college level courses.  Some users left comments saying things like “I used Chegg last semester and it’s great!”, while some said that after ordering, they did not receive their books in time for classes. >>>

BNET noted that some students can save up to $650 in one semester on textbooks.  They also mentioned that Chegg contributes to strong environmental efforts, and has planted over 150 city blocks of trees. >>>

Bottom Line: 8 out of 10. If you are a college student, Chegg can save you money on used textbooks.  Instead of buying and selling textbooks every semester, now you can rent them for only the time you need and save money in the process.  To make sure you get your books in time, just make sure you order them as soon as you know you need them.
